Our current campaign is to get the eight large chain stores: CVS, Walgreens, Brooks, K-mart, Lil-Peach/Tedeschi, Store 24, Stop & Shop, and Shaws to stop selling tobacco products all together. For this campaign we have a petition with over 2000 signatures, support letters from over 20 organizations including the Mayor of Boston, and we protest daily in front of these stores.
While in the House of Representatives Chambers TEENS AGAINST TOBACCO was recognized by Speaker of House Thomas Finneran. He had us stand up while the entire House of Representatives gave us a standing ovation for out efforts to eliminate tobacco use in our community.
TEENS AGAINST TOBACCO worked with the Boston Public Health Commission to improve youth access regulations. Through public hearings and presentations we helped pass new regulations like the banning of self service display, and mandating that all merchants that sell tobacco advertise educational information.
All of our hard work in improving tobacco regulation and strengthening prevention in our community was recognized when we received the Community Leadership Award from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. This award recognized us for our outstanding contributions in prevention and building healthy communities.
KICK BUTTS DAY!!!
On Wednesday, April 3rd, TEENS AGAINST TOBACCO had a KICK BUTTS DAY event.
We showed the community what cigarettes really contain and had examples of many deadly chemicals found in them like arsenic and rat poison.
This event was successful because it exposed the truth about cigarettes to the public.
